On your recommendation a couple of weeks ago, I bought Frank Bures's book ...from the Minnrsota Historical Society. I plan to give it toIour local library when I finish reading it myself. Like many books I've read lately, I'm learning a lot about a field of interest that I never would have even known about: canoe-building and canoe races. (I plan to research building birch bark canoes now...)
I haven't even gotten to the second part of the book and the author's personal experiences. Looking forward to that! Have a great time when you meet up with him on his promotional tour. You're both great writers and I appreciate reading your creations!
I (we) have used the rebate plan many times. Our local Menards is 2 miles from our home. However, there is a large, big box store (same distance...different direction) who readily gives VETERANS a 10% discount immediately at purchase which saves us the hassle of mailing in a rebate which is only good at Menards.
Anyone from the upper Midwest that has walked through the chrome turnstile of Menards and saved big money knows this story in some degree. I can remember when the stores were only local and the buildings were no more than pole buildings themselves. The product quality was less than desirable, but it was handy. If you were what some might consider cheap, this was great place to shop. My Grandfather was know to buy his underwear there not because of the quality but the price. Over the years the stores and the products have gotten much better and of course now they are closer to a national chain and around here they're liken to KT or the Dollar General. You either embrace it as most of us do or drive out of your way to the closest competition. How about a limited edition 25' hot pink tape measure with a picture of Mike and Ray on in the side. I'd buy one
